To-Do List
This is Sam's vacation list for this year (you can check it against last year's list to see how dramatically it's changed).
I get that this is a lot to pack in over a short period of time (about three and a half days or so) but I like to think that all or most of us enjoy sharing all or most of these things together. I know Sam enjoys it and, out of all of us, he has the least opportunity to get a vacation of any size throughout the year so I'm more than happy to be able to do what I can to make it special for him.
For me, just as it's always been, it's about being able to be together - no matter where we are.
In the coming days I'll try to post some photos (most likely without comment).

Old Postcards and More
In anticipation of our upcoming vacation, here are a few old Cape Cod postcards (plus an ad), generally from the era of my long-ago youth, taken from my completely-out-of-hand postcard collection...
This is the Sands Motor Lodge, where we pretty much always stayed. It was pretty much located close to many of the places we liked to visit - Granville Beach, the penny candy store, Hyannis, etc. This motel, as with many others, is long since gone having been torn down to make way for the mall and many, many, many shopping centers.
The aforementioned town of Hyannis. This photo taken well before my time but, except for the cars, looks similar in flavor...
Here are a few motels, none of which hold any special attachment to me - other than the fact that they were familiar sites. The ones taken at night, in particular, hold an amount of nostalgia for me. I've written here somewhere long ago about how magical it felt, as a little kid, to be riding around this area of the Cape at night. Of these, I only know for sure that The Windrift is still there (we still drive by it). I can't say about the others...
And finally, here's a postcard of the oft-visited Barefoot Trader (along with an old ad I found God-knows-where). I think it was in the same long ago blog entry mentioned above where I talked about how, as a little kid, I felt like the gift-store-loving visitors to the Cape were divided into two groups - those who liked the Barefoot Trader and those who preferred Treasure Island. We were definitely Barefoot Trader people - and I have a sense that we looked down on those families who preferred Treasure Island.
I've yet to find a postcard of Treasure Island (though the building still stands). I believe the the Barefoot Trader building is finally gone, having slowly devolved into a real estate agency among other things...

A Little Tip
When you're cutting a loaf of bread with a new, exceedingly sharp bread knife, make sure when you;re holding the loaf that your finger is out of the way
Otherwise, you might almost cut off the tip of that finger.

Objet d'Art
Sam made a lovely piece of art with his Thursday evening group.
This is one of the many things Sam is good at. Not only is he artistic but he has the patience and precision to place all the various beans and colored rice exactly where he wants them.
