Taking a Break

This morning, Sam and I took a short break from our lives to go on an aggressively-paced "walk" along the canal. This was our first walk there since late last fall.

The occasion? None - other than at least one of us needed a change of scenery - and the fact that the temperature was up to the low fifties helped our motivation. Plus, the news that we may be getting up to a foot of snow by the end of the week, made it feel like a "now-or-never" opportunity.

Not much to look at - broken and barren trees, contorted by the weight of the winter, and the occasional ice chunk drifting aimlessly downstream. There were veils of a thin, low fog over the water, but these faded away as we walked. We did, however, see what we think might have been swans off in the distance - or maybe they were white geese. Either way, it was a sign of life.
